The Return Of Live Music!

BLOG
live music

Yesterday saw the return of live music, with the first (official) non-socially distanced gig trial in the UK since… forever. After over a year without a proper gig, the thought of 5000 people crammed into a tent is hard to compute. Especially without face coverings or social distancing. It seems a little crazy to test this straight away with that many people rather than concentrating on some smaller shows in grassroots venues.

However, attendees had to take a test first as I understand it so it was about as safe as could be guaranteed right now. For some, no doubt, that would still be anxiety inducing!

Most importantly, it’s great to see live music back on the calendar.

So, with that in mind we’ve started to update the events calendar again.

There’s a few online shows still on the cards, including the rather excellent looking “REMOHTE COMMUNITY” show, organised by the brilliant Oxford based Divine Schism and Freak Scene. That’s on this Friday 7th May, streaming from 7:30pm via @freaksceneox on Instagram.

It kicks off with a brand (and brilliantly named) new band, The Dumplings and ends with the fantastic Nervous Twitch.

You can donate to the show at wegottickets.com/freakscene

Getting into the upcoming shows planned before the end of the year so far, highlights include:

29th May Trouble Wanted + Jenny Moore’s Mystic Business @ The Shacklewell Arms

3rd June POZI + Uh @ Studio 9294

4th June Qlowski @ MOTH Club

12th June Alien Tango @ The Shacklwell Arms

13th June Grimm Grimm @ Islington Assembly Hall

24th June PC World + Nation Unrest @ The Waiting Room

10th July Mermaid Chunky + Merlin Nova + Platypus Complex @ Folklore

17th July Ed Dowie + Clementine March + Don Vinski @ Folklore

15th September Italia 90 @ MOTH Club

19th October: Bananagun @ MOTH Club

9th November Pan American @ Cafe OTO

16th November The Cool Greenhouse @ The Shacklewell Arms

23rd November Brigid Mae Power @ The Lexington

It’s great to see some of our favourite London events organisers and venues back in action too. These shows come largely from Upset The Rhythm, Incredible Society, Bad Vibrations, Baba Yaga’s Hut and Night Terrors. The venues include The Shacklewell Arms, The Victoria Dalston, MOTH Club and The Waiting Room.

Check our events calendar for dates and ticket links!

It’s great to see the return of live music but, of course, we have to approach this cautiously. To aid this many of these initial shows will be socially distanced so they’re likely to sell out fast. Here’s hoping these events actually go ahead. If you do book tickets, remember to check up on the show nearer the time in case of cancellation.
